So, when he asked her to pick up a couple of Powerball tickets, she thought she’d teach him a little lesson. Instead the 57-year old bought a $10 Powerball scratchcard to show him instantly that these tickets never hit. However, she was forced to eat her words (and boy, they tasted good!) when the ticket was a $1,000,000 winner.
His buying of lottery tickets has been a contentious issue between the pair for a while. While she thinks they’re a total waste of money and gets aggravated with her husband for buying them, he thinks you must try your luck. Well the couple certainly tried their lucky with this win, worth a million dollars!
It’s a strange twist of fate, and is sure to stop Glenda Blackwell complaining about her husband playing the lottery, as the couple celebrate this monumental win! Neither stated whether they intended to continue playing the lottery after the win.
Although the scratchcard showed a $1,000,000 win, because of the way that US lottery wins are paid, the couple will get a smaller amount. Wins are generally fixed for yearly payments over 20-yrs, but as the couple have taken the lump sum, they’ll instead receive $415,502 after taxes.
Even the smaller amount is a sizeable sum! The couple intend on using the money to buy a house, and set up college funds for their two granddaughters. Glenda Blackwell is 57, and she feels this money will now set them up for life, and all because she wanted to prove a point to her husband!
