A teenage lottery winner from the US has collected his prize and handed most of it straight to his parents!
The anonymous 19-year-old from Michigan won $500,000 on a lottery scratchcard, a massive win, but he says although he’s taken $5,000 to invest he’s given the rest to his parents as gratitude for everything they have done for him and his sister.
The teenager is from Williamston, Michigan and bought the $10 ‘Golden Wild Time’ ticket at the local Sunoco gas station in Lansing, Michigan. He opted to scratch the ticket off in store and originally thought the store clerks were playing a prank on him, making him think he had won big, but that wasn’t the case and the teenager had in fact won the $500,000 top prize.
Now the thoughtful son has handed the prize as a gift to his parents, a move he says will take a big weight off the whole family.
This Michigan player isn’t the only teen lottery winner in the US right now either! This win comes just a few weeks after another 19-year-old in Florida also won $500,000 on a scratchcard. Carlos Carranza Casas of Alachua, Florida, scooped $500,000 on an instant win card just two weeks ago, showing that it’s a lucky time for teenagers in the US right now!
We’ve heard many stories of teenage lottery wins over the years and most of them have a negative slant. Winning so much so young can add huge pressures to any young life and it can be difficult to adjust. Given those stories, and the amount of negativity young winners get, it’s nice to share a nice story with a happy ending.
