It’s been two months since the Mega Millions jackpot was won and about the same for the Powerball. So long that the calendar has changed not only in month but in year too. But all that came to an end last weekend when one lucky player matched all the winning numbers on the Mega Millions, scooping an eye-popping $450,000,000 and a $570,000,000 Powerball jackpot was won too!
The US multi-state Mega Millions is one of the hardest in the world to win with odds of 303 million to one and the Powerball is no more generous. But these winners have beaten the odds, putting them both in the top ten for the record jackpots of each lottery and overall for US lottery prizes.
We don’t know much about the Mega Millions winner yet, other than the winning ticket was sold in Florida. However, in the US lottery rules vary from state to state and in Florida, it’s not legal to remain anonymous. Once the winner is confirmed their name, city of residence and the details of the win will be documented and confirmed, as per Florida Lottery law. As for the Powerball winner, that ticket was sold in Concord, New Hampshire and we’re awaiting winners details on that too!
The US lottery jackpots can get very big, and several hundred million isn’t unheard of, but to have two monster jackpots both won on the same weekend is quite something and quite the way to start 2018!
Sadly it does mean that Powerball and Mega Millions players will now have to wait again to see those jackpots climb again, assuming there isn’t another lucky winner along the way of course.
